Dead End DonI just found out that Chrysler has stopped making touch-up paint for the Prowler (at least for purple Prowlers).

My local dealer gave me a printout of the dealers nationally who still had any in stock, and it was a VERY short list - 6 had the tubes, and 6 had the spray cans - that's it in the continental U.S. (again, this is according the the local dealer only, and I will happily confirm that they are total idiots in every respect, so if this is bad info, I will go back over there and kick one of their display cars!!)

I am torn between starting a "run" on touch up paint and wanting to let the group know about this potential problem.

MDProwlerI just got both brush on and spray touch up from DC for my Orange cat. I need to go back and get the clear spray. I'll check on the purple.

1buddycLook for a Paint Supplier in your local area, a Paint Supplier that sells paint to Body Shops. If you cant find one, call your favorite Body Shop and ask them where they get their paint supplies from. Go to the Paint Supplier and give them the Color Code off your Kat and ask them to mix up some touch-up paint for you. They will probably need to mix up some Clear for you also, and the smallest quantity is usually 1/2 pint. Use the Color first and then the Clear after the Color dries. You might get some Touch Up brushes from them at the same time for your touch ups. Should last for a LONG TIME!
If you have a really good Body Shop that you have dealt with before, they might even mix up some touch-up paint for you at no charge. Not a big deal..

ProwlerI've been told that any NAPA store can mix any of the colors in a spray can for you.
CJI'll check with my Mopar contact on this....
BeWare I was also told the touch up was discontinued. It was in fact actually darker than what is on the Purple Kat. You are better off getting the color mixed. However the paint is actually flat. You will also need clear coat unless the mix the clear with the purple pearl color for you. The paint code is PH7.
Dead End DonWait a minute - you mean that the touch up paint in the tube (1) doesn't match the car color, and (2) I still need to go over it with a separate clear coat??? WTF kind of touch up system is that?!?!?!?!

What about the spray can??? Is that flat also??

I've got two tiny chips that barely show - by the time I'm done layering on the base paint and the clear coat, it'll look worse than it does now with a big raised spot in the paint.

How convenient....

1. Is the factory touch up paint an acrylic enamel???

2. What is this "Langka" product, and has anyone used it with any success?? I mean, is it just a sheet of 420 grit wet n dry sandpaper and instructions on how to fine sand the excess, or is there some "magic" to the product that I can't fathom???

These are really, really tiny chips - maybe the size of a pinhead, but they bug me. I'm very reluctant to start sanding/rubbing away on the center of my hood with "mystery stuff"....

Anybody??????????????????

I'll be the guinea pig. I just ordered a kit. I have been wanting to try it anyhow. Any sandpaper they would give you would be 2000 grit. But this comes with more. I'll post when I get it.

MDProwlerGood info Grrowl. I bought the kit anyway. I have a chip up near the trunk release button I want to fix. This will give me a chance to try it.
CJUPDATE! I received a message from my contact at Mopar. It states that he did some investigating and there is no more of the Spray Cans and due to low sales, there will not be anymore.

As far as Touch Up paint in the tubes, there will be more available in about a month (maybe less) and I will update you when he lets me know that it is available.

BeWare The paint I am talking about being flat is the actual color mixed by a paint shop. I do not know about the paint in the tube. The paint in the spray can was mixed with clear. I used this to paint die cast models. It came out darket than my Prolwer every time I used it.

my yellow spray can was flat.....this is due to the fact that the spray can is base coat and then you must spray a clear coat, JUST LIKE THE PAINT ON THE CAR.

Like others have said, GO TO PAINT SUPPLIER AND HAVE IT MIXED

Jim EvansThe paint on your prowler is a polyurethane two state finish. A flat base coat and the clear, which contains all the properties of filling any sanding scratches, ultraviolet protection, durability and gloss. The base coat just give the color. To do a brush touch up you must use the base color and a clear, here is the recommened way to do it so it is not very noticeable. This is time comsuming it is not just dab the brush in the paint
1) take the 2000 grit sand paper and lightly feather the edges of the chip.
2) clean the area well, if it is down to the bare substrate, apply a primer, the same color as the primer of the car
3) apply the base coat in light applications do not just fill the chip
4) wait for the base to dry the start to apply the clear you will want to use several coat of this. Let it dry between coats, build the clear so it is slightly higher than the oem finish
5) let this dry completely, take out your 2000 grit sand paper and water and lightly wet sand the surface smooth
6) take a fine rubbing compound and buff the area then wax

I got my Lanbks yesterday and repaired a chip in my wifes Yukon XL. It does what it says. It disolves the touch-up paint but NOT the factory finish.

One thing I found is that if you don't let the touch up paint dry for at least 4 or 5 hours (I'd reccommend overnight but I couldn't wait to try it to see if it really worked) before rubbing it down as it will go below the unchipped surface rather rapidly. Then you have to aply more touch-up paint and do it again.

But it DOES work and didn't harm the finish on the surrounding area.
